Braemar

Braemar

Braemer is arguably best known for its major Highland Games, which attracts a whole host of personalities, celebrities and thousands of locals and visitors. The games take place the first Saturday in September.

Braemar is at the the eastern gateway to the Cairngorm Mountains and therefore a fantastic base for walkers, skiers, lovers of wildlife and the great outdoors. There is also the popular Braemar Castle, built in 1628 by the Earl of Mar; a glorious castle situated amongst the most stunning scenery. South of Braemar is the popular Glenshee Ski Centre, which is accessed by a main road that is the highest in the UK and surrounded on both sides by Munros. There are some challenging walks and peaks in the area, so once you leave the beaten track, you find yourself in the middle of nowhere! Be sure to know your surroundings, travel well equipped with plenty of water and protection.

The tumbling River Dee offers fantastic views from Linn 'O Dee and is well worth a visit.
